TIP 1 – Hydrated Skin Is The Foundation
Your products have to work a lot harder if your skin is not prepped – ways to prep the skin depend on how your skin is presenting.
Normal- Hydrate with a skin-loving oil like jojoba or olive squalane. Apply a few drops to your palm and gently press evenly into your skin. Let absorb for 2-3 minutes before applying makeup.
Visibly dry/flaky- gently exfoliate with either jojoba/almond/avocado oil and a soft washcloth – using slow, circular motions, gently buff the oil into your skin. This will remove any dead skin as well as hydrate your skin. Let absorb 1-2 minutes before applying makeup.
Sensitive/red- Jojoba or Rosehip are great hydrating/calming oils for sensitive skin. Apply a small amount to your palms and gently press into the skin (no rubbing/scrubbing for sensitive skin!) Let absorb 2-3 minutes before applying makeup.

TIP 2 – You Need Good/Clean Tools
Using dirty caked-on brushes will not only transfer dirt/bacteria to your skin and apply too much product, but your brushes are designed to apply your products a certain way, and if they aren’t in good shape, your makeup application won’t be as good as it could be! My tried and true brush cleaner for the last 10 years is my quick dry brush cleaner – this quickly cleans/sanitizes and dries your brush, so you’re ready to go! Shop Loren Cosmetics Brushes
Our hands are also amazing tools for applying foundation (when you want a sheer/skin look) so make sure your hands are washed and hydrated (using the same hydration as above) too!!
TIP 3 – Apply Foundation in Thin/Even Layers
Now for the magic… Be mindful of how much product you’re applying. More is NEVER better. This is why hydrating the skin is so important – (it will allow your product to evenly lay on the skin.)
Apply your product to the back of your hand first. This gives you complete control of how much product you apply to your skin. And it could be different all the time because our skin changes all the time!
If you’re using a brush to apply your foundation, don’t grab a glob on your brush- instead, swipe towards the edge of the product and drag out so that you have a small amount on your brush.

TIP 4 – The Perfect Touch
When applying your foundation, be mindful of the perfect pressure. Not scrubbing it into the skin yet not leaving bulky layers in different spots. I prefer to use my wrist and not my full arm to apply (see example below). Start in the center of the face and work your way out using the same pressure.
After you’ve applied a thin layer, if you have other areas that you’d like more coverage on, grab a little bit more product and tap on that area.

TIP 5 – It Goes Where It Shows
Whatever is showing from your face down to the collar of your clothing, I consider your face. The foundation’s purpose is to give the illusion of good skin – so to make it believable, it can’t stop at your neckline. However, we don’t need as much product on that area either – we just want to blend down whatever is left of our product that’s on our brush or hands so that it doesn’t transfer onto the clothing, of course.
